History
The origins of the LongLeaf Coffee Company started as nothing more than a dream many years ago. Keith Moore and his family moved to the Seattle area in the early 90’s and had grown to adore the fine coffee’s that were roasted in this region. When he moved back to Victoria in the mid-90’s, he soon realized that he could not find the level of quality coffee that he had discovered in the northwest. That is where the dream begins. He set off to educate himself with as much information about coffee as he could; from how it is grown to what methods are used for brewing. To create an “average” cup of coffee was unacceptable; he wanted to know how to make the “best” cup of coffee. Keith and his wife Cindy made it a point to attend every informative conference and training seminar that there schedules would allow. After hours of “how to” classes and many a read books under their belt, the day finally came where the decision was made to go for it. Objective: to seek out and bring the finest coffee and brewing techniques the Victoria area has and will ever see. The commitment had been made and the dedication to the dream begins. As planned, there was a tremendous amount of work (both physical and mental) to ensure that the standards of excellence were met. So Keith and Cindy set out to find a good place to set up shop. The Moore family had lived in the downtown area for 20+ years and came to the decision that 215 South Main Street would be the ideal location for the new business. The downtown area has a rich and vibrant past with many historical structures possessing their very own unique characteristics. Around the same time the Moore’s middle son Josh decided to come on board. A soon to be college graduate, it was apparent that there is not a better utilization his newly acquired Business degree then for the start up of his families new endeavor. Little did he know, he would be using more then his degree to open the doors to the new shop. There was also a need to completely renovate the 90 year old building, from top to bottom. As you can see in the pictures, there were literally thousands of man hours involved in the restoration and construction of the shop. The building was completely gutted and the entire concrete floor was taken out in order to replace the existing utilities. As stated, not only was this project committed to the renovation of the building, but also to the restoration to its history and integrity for the story to be shared with every customer who would walk through the doors. The Moore’s tried to preserve as much of the old structure as they could. The original tin ceiling was sandblasted, patched, and painted. The wainscoting in the seating area was made out of old Longleaf Pine (hence the name) that came from the rafters on the second floor of the building. All of the cabinets and tables in the shop were made by Josh out of native mesquite wood. The attention to detail really comes through in the restored building. After nearly two years of solid labor and figuring, the Moore’s opened their doors for business on May 10, 2007.
